Children of Mary is a traditional community- situated on a large tract of wooded land in central Ohio. They are considered semi-contemplative. This is a rather new community (under 20 years old) in Newark, Ohio, and is under the guidance of Bishop Campbell in the Diocese of Columbus.
This is a young and very traditional group of sisters, whose spirituality is centered on the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
At the head of this community is Mother Margaret Mary (photo above), who lived for years as a solitary hermit before forming the Children of Mary (order and rule approved in 2002). Chosen as patron saints of this order are Saint John Paul II, Saint Therese of the Child Jesus (the Little Flower), Saint John Vianny, and Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
The daily schedule includes daily mass at 9am, the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and chanting morning, evening and night prayers. You rise at 6:00 am, and lights out at 10:00 pm. I have personally visited and discerned with this Community, and I would definitely recommend checking them out. They are very traditional, but not in a rigid or overwhelming way. Their way of life feels very natural and is totally centered around Jesus in the Eucharist. Even if you just go on a regular retreat with them, I'm sure it would be worth your while.
ReplyDeleteIt was concerning seeing them at a campaign rally for an adulterer/child rapist considering they probably enjoy tax exemptions. Trump is the epitome of all 7 deadly sins. Why on Earth would these sisters allow themselves to be used as his props?
ReplyDeleteI was fully shocked to see the sisters in support of a candidate, especially one who has a continuous track record of being extremely controversial. I think if the sisters wanted to go to the rally then they should have worn regular clothes and not habits. Many Catholics and Christians do not agree with their opinions and in matters where large numbers of others are present they should be more respectful and reserved and not be used as props for a campaign.
ReplyDeleteI had the pleasure of meeting several sisters at the Retreat in Ohio a few weeks ago. Beautiful sisters with such love and compassion for all. Thank you for touching my life and I will always remember my special weekend. Take care and God Bless.
ReplyDeleteApparently "Concerned American" and "Mr. C" never heard of St. Augustine or St. Paul, two men who turned their lives around. President Trump is more Catholic than any of our democrat leaders or most of our bishops could ever hope to be. Perhaps one of these days the two of you will have your own epiphany and realize none of us live perfect lives. Shame on you for implying that these good women allowed themselves to be used as props. I thank these Sisters for not being ashamed to give witness wearing their religious habit.
